(Love is) The Tender Trap / You’ll Get Yours

Song #1:

“(Love is) The Tender Trap”

Top Choices, essentially tied:

•1985 UK This is Sinatra LP

•Australia The Essential Frank Sinatra CD

•UK This is Frank Sinatra 1953-1957 CD

Collectors Series CD and reuses in BLUE at left

•1997 Australia The Frank Sinatra Collection CD

•UK 25 Classic Tracks CD

Slight Step Down, Still Excellent:

•UK This is Sinatra CD

Legendary Singers LP

Not as good:

•Early vinyl, at least as tested here

•2014 This is Sinatra LP - mildly compressed, dull tone (noise reduced?)

Avoid:

•Japanese releases - run fast

Complete Capitol Singles - Norberged

The Movie Years LP and 1986 Australia The Frank Sinatra Collection CD - Wet

Screen Sinatra LP - Duophonic, summed to mono

•UK The Frank Sinatra Collection, reused on the The Screen Sinatra CD - Technical problems; see NOTES section at right.

All-Time Classics LP and Twenty Golden Greats LP - fake stereo

•2014 HD download - compressed, with very dull tone

NOTES

•The very first CD transfer, for UK The Frank Sinatra Collection CD and  Screen Sinatra CD, has two problems:  The tape is not sitting flat as it goes over the tape head, so with each rotation of the tape, the levels change from left to right.  Also, there is some periodic, odd “ghosting” in the right channel, almost like the recording is playing along with itself, but several seconds behind the intended sound.

•This track seems to have been especially well represented on CD.

Song #2:

“You’ll Get Yours”

Top Choice:

•Japan The Hit Maker LP

Close Second:

Original 45s - tone may actually be slightly superior (less treble roll-off); dynamics are quite diminished

Avoid:

The Rarities, Volume One LP, Forever Frank LP, The Hit Collection CD - wet tapes.

Complete Capitol Singles Collection - Norberged

Sinatra Sings Music for Pleasure LP - Heavily, audibly compressed, with rolled-off top end

NOTES

•The “wetness” of the wet tapes seems more pronounced on The Hit Collection than on The Rarities, Volume One.
