Song #1:

This Was My Love

May 14, 1959

This Was My Love / When No One Cares / I’ll Never Smile Again /

Talk to Me

Top Choice, but technically flawed (see NOTES at right):

•1991 No One Cares CD (stereo remix by Larry Walsh)

Top mono choice, on the warm side:

•N1 45 or D6 LP

Top mono choice, more “full range:
•1984 DMM LP

(2016 LP close behind)

Second place, stereo:

•MFSL LP

NOTES

•The track layout on the 3-track tape, from which mono and stereo mixes were created, is:

Track One: Strings, harp

Track Two: Sinatra

Track Three: Woodwinds, brass, percussion, rhythm section

•This is another case of the 3-track being used primarily with mono in mind, albeit with the ability to create a fairly awkward, acceptable stereo mix, as well.

•Yet another “All the Way” stereo LP track that is mixed backwards, with strings on the wrong side (to the right).  See ORANGE and BLUE notations at left.

•1991 No One Cares CD very slightly clips off the beginning of the first note.

Arranger/Conductor: Nelson Riddle

Song #4:

Talk to Me

Top Choice, stereo remix with channels reversed:

•1988 All the Way CD

Second place, both using the original stereo mix, with channels reversed:

The Great Years stereo LP

•1983 MFSL All the Way LP (a hair too airy?)

Top mono choice, despite being a fold-down of the stereo mix:

•1966 UK World Record Club All the Way LP

NOTES

•The track layout on the 3-track tape, from which mono and stereo mixes were created, is:

Track One: Strings, harp

Track Two: Sinatra

Track Three: Sax solo, rhythm section incl. celeste

•This is another case of the 3-track being used primarily with mono in mind.

•Yet another “All the Way” stereo LP track that is mixed backwards, with strings on the wrong side (to the right).  See ORANGE and BLUE notations at left.

•In the original stereo mix, an 11-second tape insert is used to cover an on-mic cough during the first violin solo.  The 1988 remix includes the cough; the mono mix dodges it.  Musical content is identical on all versions.
