Song from “Some Came Running” (To Love and Be Loved) - Two Versions
/ I Couldn’t Care Less
Top Choice (stereo):
•1982 SN-series All the Way LP
Second Place (both stereo):
•1989 UK Great Films & Shows CD
•1976 SM-series All the Way LP
Top mono choice:
•1984 Holland DMM All the Way LP
Second best mono:
•2016 All the Way LP
Subpar:
•1981 Australian The Rarities - Volume One and 1984 UK All the Way LPs - dark/dull
Avoid:
•Some original mono LPs, such as my D3 pressing - bad tone; compressed
•The Movie Songs and The Sinatra Touch mono LPs - compressed; sub-par tone
•UK My Funny Valentine LP and Sinatra Sings the Select Sammy Cahn CD - poor tone; very heavy compression
NOTES
•The 1988 CD is a stereo remix. It’s tastefully done, but I prefer the original stereo mix on this particular song by a small margin.
•The Screen Sinatra CD sounds very good, but has an extraneous POP at the beginning, with the last note faded out slightly early.
•As with some other tracks from the All the Way album, this song has strings mixed to the right, which is highly unusual. On take #8, only one domestic stereo release (an N4 pressing) and one international release (the 1984 UK LP) has the strings on the left, possibly by accident.
•The two fold-down versions have some minor balance issues vis-a-vis the true mono versions, but they are not bad.

Song #2:
“I Couldn’t Care Less (Who’s In Your Arms Tonight)”
Top Choice:
•LIke Never Before
NOTES
•The 1978 LP has the stereo width reduced significantly.
•The Capitol Years is a new remix, which benefits the song overall, but I wish that 1.) the vocal were a bit more forward in the mix; and 2.) the ending was not faded down so abruptly.
•This is one of my favorite Sinatra performances, and it’s a shame that it exists in relative obscurity.
